Day 1: Labuan Bajo to Ruteng (The Giant Spiderweb)
Your journey begins in the west of Flores. You will jump into a car and drive through winding roads surrounded by green hills.
The first cool stop is Cancar. Here, you will hike up a small hill to see Sawah Lingko. These are rice fields shaped exactly like giant spiderwebs! Local people designed them this way to divide the land fairly. After taking epic photos, you will drive to the cool mountain town of Ruteng to sleep.
Day 2: Ruteng to Bajawa (The Mystic Lake)
Put on a hoodie because mornings in Ruteng are chilly! Today, you are heading deeper into the mountains towards Bajawa.
On the way, you will visit Lake Ranamese. This lake is hidden deep inside a thick forest. It is often covered in thick fog, making it look like a scene from a fantasy movie. The air is super fresh and quiet. By afternoon, you will arrive in Bajawa, a town surrounded by massive volcanoes.
Day 3: Bajawa (Time Travel and Hot Springs)
Day three is all about culture and chilling. First, you will visit Bena Traditional Village. This ancient village sits right at the foot of Mount Inerie.
You will see old wooden houses with high thatched roofs. The local people are super friendly and weave beautiful colorful fabrics by hand. After walking around the village, it is time to relax! You will head to Soa Hot Springs to swim in warm, natural volcanic river water. It feels like a giant warm bath!
Day 4: Bajawa to Moni (The Blue Stone Beach)
Today is a long drive to Moni, the tiny village at the base of Mount Kelimutu. But do not worry, the road trip stops are amazing.
You will cruise along the coast and stop at Penggajawa Beach. People call it the Blue Stone Beach because the shore is covered in millions of natural turquoise and blue pebbles. It is the perfect spot to skip stones and take aesthetic photos for your social media. By evening, you will reach Moni to rest up.
Day 5: Kelimutu Magic Lakes to Ende
This is the big day! You need to wake up at 4:00 AM to catch the sunrise on Mount Kelimutu. Do not worry, the hike is short and very easy.
When the sun comes up, it lights up three massive volcanic crater lakes. The mind-blowing part? All three lakes have different colors! They can change from bright blue to turquoise green, or even deep red. It feels like magic.
After enjoying the view, you will drive down to the final city, Ende. You can check out the historic house where Indonesia’s first president lived before your epic 5-day adventure ends!

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Why do the Kelimutu lakes change colors?
A: It is caused by a scientific reaction! Volcanic gases underground react with the minerals in the water, causing the colors to shift naturally.
Q: Can we swim in the Kelimutu lakes?
A: No, swimming is strictly banned because the lakes are inside active volcanic craters and contain toxic chemicals.
Q: Will I get motion sickness?
A: Flores is famous for its “winding roads.” If you easily get dizzy in cars, take motion sickness pills 30 minutes before the drive starts.
Q: Is there internet access along the highway?
A: Internet can be weak or disappear completely when driving through deep valleys and forests, but it works fine in the main towns.
